My Year in Music – June 2026

What does June look like for OMG? Simple. A lot of work. But, this month, I get the joy of just doing what I want with this playlist. Whatever wild idea pops into my head? Yeah, that’s the song of the day because, in June, I become older and therefore much wiser. This month wasn’t even done in order. Songs were thrown in at random and wherever they landed was where they stayed which is not how things are typically done here. Some songs tell you a bit about me; others were chosen for their meaning and the rest are chosen as a warning but good luck! Have fun! And enjoy these ones!

I think one thing that I’ve learned this month is that the loud minority will ALWAYS be louder than the quiet majority. If one person says something that doesn’t immediately make it true. And I know that it is easy to say that you should ignore people like that but people who go about shouting their opinions are usually the most insecure and just looking for validation. The second thing I learned is that people assume that people with disabilities don’t act like typical human beings so allow me (someone who is has an invisible disability and rarely tells anyone for fear I will immediately be wrapped in bubble wrap and coddled to death) to clarify something: as normal a life as possible is the goal. We don’t need kiddie gloves. We learn and grow just like anyone else can, providing the conditions around us suit… JUST. LIKE. EVERYONE. ELSE. We also have feelings and emotions *say it with me now* Just Like Everyone Else. Very good. Take it. Internalise it. It costs nothing to respect people and you’ll be more likely to be respected in return.

But anyway! You are here for a monthly playlist and a playlist for the year so far, not life advice. So, enjoy and we’ll meet here again next month, ‘kay?

June 1: The One and Only – Chesney Hawkes (My lucky song. Whenever I hear it something good happens ^,^)
June 2: Too Much – Dove Cameron (As someone who is always too *insert adjective here*, I get this song)
June 3: Mean – Taylor Swift (All you are is mean, And a liar, And pathetic… I don’t need to continue. The song speaks for itself)
June 4: Get Over It – Eagles (Complain about the present, blame it on the past… Nuh uh, the present is what you make of it. You’re past doesn’t define you)
June 5: Bounce Back – Stray Kids (I aspire to clapback at people as well as this song does. Whoo! Bring it back, come on! *clap clap*)
June 6: Heavy is the Crown – Mike Shinoda & Emily Armstrong (Some people carry a lot of weight on their shoulders. It gets to be a lot)
June 7: Ordinary World – Duran Duran (The best thing you can do is learn to survive. You have survived all your toughest days so far)
June 8: Anything but Ordinary – Avril Lavigne (Is it enough for me to be ordinary? No, I don’t think so)
June 9: Save Yourself, I’ll Hold Them Back – My Chemical Romance (The song title is my general thought process in uncomfortable situations)
June 10: I Made It – Tones and I (Because most people want to see you fail but the real people are the ones, not only being nice to your face but, standing behind you supporting you every step of the way)
June 11: Dandelions – Ruth B (Wishing on every one that you’d be mine)
June 12: Break the Girl – Florence Road
June 13: Dancing On My Own – Robyn (Because I won’t dance with just anyone)
June 14: The Only Exception – Paramore (And I’ve always lived like this keeping a comfortable distance)
June 15: Killing In The Name Of – Rage Against the Machine (If you tell me I can’t I will do it twice. Spite is a powerful motivator. F*ck you. And… I’ll take picture just for funsies)
June 16: Follow The Leader – The Soca Boys & Van B. King (And apparently I’m the leader… Terrible decision really)
June 17: Jealous – Nick Jonas (Yeah, I’m jealous. This is a fact and a warning. And I don’t mean the cute kind of jealousy either. What’s mine is mine and it’ll stay mine)
June 18: Confident – Demi Lovato (Because I’m not intimidating, just confident even when I’m not really. I’m not too anything, you’re just not enough)
June 19: Lost In Japan – Shawn Mendes (This is what I will do for the people who matter. People who matter don’t mind and people who mind don’t matter)
June 20: Rumour Has It – Adele (What did I do now? Who did I talk to? Because I’ve heard some interesting stories about myself that couldn’t possibly be true but anyway! What did I do next?)
June 21: A Sky Full of Stars – Coldplay (The idea of a sky full of stars… something about being singled out of billions as the important one is something beautiful. This song always makes me smile)
June 22: Grow A Pear – Kesha (Don’t. Ruin. My. Morning.)
June 23: Poker Face – Lady Gaga (Apparently I’m a difficult person to read. My face doesn’t give much away but I know one person who knows what I’m thinking. It just takes time and a little effort)
June 24: RUN IT – Stray Kids (Did you really think I wouldn’t include SKZ’s newest song? This is my Ult K-pop group and my Ult bias for a reason. Tour Intro song, yes?)
June 25: Never Forget – Take That (Where you come from is as important as where you are going. Never forget that)
June 26: Don’t Cha (feat. Busta Rhymes) – Pussycat Dolls ( I know you do, don’t cha?)
June 27: Sports Car – Tate McRae (Yes, I know a LOT about cars. I enjoy motorsports. Yes, I am aware I’m a girl. I can fix your car faster than you can and I don’t need help jumping my car in a crisis. I’m a damsel, but not in distress. Have a nice day. P.S. And, no, your ‘modified’ VW Jetta does NOT impress me)
June 28: Your Love – The Outfield (I am hugely fond of 80s music. I guess I got it from my momma)
June 29: a thousand years – Christina Perri (One day your going to find the kind of happiness that makes all the pain you went through make sense because I know life wasn’t always fair to you but the way you love is rare. The way you love is with loyalty. Do me a favour and smile. Your story isn’t done)
June 30: HANDS UP – MEOVV (Been stuck in my head for sooooo long that it needed to make an appearance eventually)

That’s another month of music and extra random song choices which brings us to the halfway point of our playlist. So we’re getting through this. GG EZ and I’ll see you next month. Or maybe sooner, who knows. Okayiloveyougoodbye!
