My Year In Music – September 2026

Sometimes the songs are easy. They arrive first thing in the morning, bouncing around my head begging to be made the song for the day. Sometimes multiple songs show up in one day and they all deserve a spot on the MYIM playlist. But, of course, sometimes it’s not that easy. Sometimes I just find it hard to connect to music. Everything is just too loud, too hectic, too everything. I had one of those days this month, where I had to step back – away from the loudness, the people, the lights, the constant going.

I bring this up because we have entered Mental Health Awareness Month. Taking your mental health into consideration is so unbelievably important. Your mental health impacts you and how you interact with and see the world. It impacts how you view yourself and others. It is so important to take care of yourself physically, emotionally and mentally. This is our one shot at life and we should never waste it. A mantra of mine is “the people who mind don’t matter and the people that matter don’t mind”. Talk to the people who matter. When it gets hard, never be scared or ashamed to ask for help. No one you know got to where they are without help. Independence is great but it takes a village to raise a child.

So without any more seriousness, I leave you with one playlist for the month and one playlist for the year so far. So, let’s get to work.

Sept 4: Harlem Shake – Baauer (Remember when this song was everywhere? In 2013……)
Sept 5: Eternity – Alex Warren (How it feels to lose someone. No filters just honesty in a song)
Sept 6: I Could Be The One – Avicii & Nicky Romero (RIP Avicii. You may be gone but you’re still here with us)

Sept 8: Commander (feat. David Guetta) – Kelly Rowland (March to the beat you create and love; don’t allow people to hold you down, Commander)
Sept 9: WE ON GO – BIA
Sept 10: Let’s Groove – Earth, Wind & Fire (No you can’t have September in September, that’d be too predictable)
Sept 11: Bleeding Love – Leona Lewis (Is there some reason why I know the words to this song but have no recollection of learning it?)
Sept 12: Honey – Moby
Sept 13: Nothing You Can Take From Me – Rachel Zegler & The Covey Band (Can you guess who is preparing themselves for the arrival of Sunrise on the Reaping? Me!!! And who’s going to be an emotional wreck anyway? Me~~~)
Sept 14: Walking In Memphis – Marc Cohen (It is almost an annual occurrence for this song to appear on MYIM by now.)
Sept 15: Hind’s Hall – Macklemore (Because silence is complicity and so is sitting on the fence. From the River to the Sea…Saoirse don Phalaistín)
Sept 16: Kiss From a Rose – Seal (I hope he and his SO don’t have hayfever. Nothing more romantic that sneezing on someone)
Sept 17: Sand Drawing – Judah Earl (This is what quiet and calm in my mind sounds like)
Sept 18: Live My Life (feat. Anderson. Paak, Nic D) – Heartsteel, League of Legends, Baekhyun & Connor Price (Having Heartsteel back is great and all but where are my KDA girlies, Riot?)
Sept 19: Burn The House Down – AJR (Should I keep it light? Stay out of the fight? Sorry you’re already in the fight because of your own “apolitical” silence)
Sept 20: Ciao Adios – Anne Marie (Burning everything (literally) even the memories of what wasn’t. It feels better.)
Sept 21: White Wedding (Pt. 1) – Billy Idol (When every car you see is white all of a sudden)
Sept 22: Dopamine – WING (I love that this is manmade)
Sept 23: My Happy Ending – Avril Lavigne
Sept 24: Not In The Same Way – 5 Seconds of Summer (I love you, You love me but not in the same way)
Sept 25: Bones – Imagine Dragons (I call it chaos – the feeling in my bones, I mean. Like a disturbance in the force but different.)
Sept 26: Lemon Drop – ATEEZ (Hi Mingi)
Sept 27: Wonder – Shawn Mendes (I don’t know why but I adore this song.)
Sept 28: Freedom – Pharrell Williams
Sept 29: Alone – Heart (Must be lip synced to dramatically for maximum enjoyment)
Sept 30: Champagne Supernova – Oasis (So are you an Oasis fan or a Blur fan?)
