2022 Yearly Round Up

If I’m not mistaken, it’s been a while since we’ve recapped a whole year. Naturally, we didn’t post as regularly this year because life decided to return to kind of normal and somehow more hectic and chaotic than ever. But people still took time to read what we wrote. As always, we want to thank everyone, readers, PR groups, bands and artists who send us music and allow us to review their music and, on some rare occasions, offer us thanks and feedback (we appreciate it all), contributors, our very first interviewee (the wonderfully gifted Moncrieff), our very patriotic group chat who supports us endlessly and have provided great ideas and input and anyone and everyone who stopped for even a moment to spend time with us. We are lucky to be able to write whenever we want about whatever we want and, even if only a small handful of people are interested, we are encouraged every step of the way.

Thank you all for being with us this year, it means the world to us and we hope you stick around for next year too. 2023 is going to hit different.

From,

Emma and Niamh

Interests

Book of the Year

N: By Any Other Name – Lauren Kate. Enemies to lovers? Sign me up. Lauren Kate is my favourite author so, it shouldn’t be a surprise that her latest release is my favourite book of the year.

E: Kingdom of the Feared – Kerri Maniscalco. Sooo….when is this being made into a movie/TV series? Shamelessly asking for myself because it’s a need not a want at this point.

Cheesy Book of the Year

N: The Dead Romantics – Ashley Poston. Fans of the Mediator series by Meg Cabot will eat this book up but, it’s nothing like that series at the same time. Cheesy, romantic and based around a millennial.

E: The Hating Game – Sally Thorne. Ooo was she cheesy? Yes but in such a good way!

Movies & TV

Movie of the Year

E : The Adam Project.

N: The Batman

Movie Disappointment of the Year

E: Hocus Pocus 2.

N: Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted are tied for this!

Cheesy Movie of the Year

E: Falling For Christmas – it’s exactly as cheesy as it sounds.

N: Christmas With You – I’m a sucker for cheesy Christmas movies and this was by far my favourite this year. Christmas With You can be found on Netflix.

TV Show of the Year

E: I’m late to the game but for me it was Teen Wolf. Stiles is my spirit animal.

N: Wednesday, it was well worth the wait and so much fun!

Game of the Year

E: Gotham Knights – I will never complain about being able to run around Gotham City as my favourite member of the bat family and getting back story alongside a great game.

N: Gotham Knights – Agreeing with Emma on this one. It is fab! I’m truly enjoying it!

Personal

Sum up the year in three words

E: Keep on pushing

N: Core memories made!

What major life lesson did you learn in 2022

E: A pretty face is just that, a pretty face. What’s more important is a person who is happy to be goofy with you.

N: The right people in your life won’t make you feel like an alien or embarrassed when you are talking about your passions, they’ll engage and ask questions while trying to understand them!

Did you set goals for 2022 and did you achieve them?

E: My goal was to talk to people more and I think I managed that. I made some new acquaintances.

N: My goal was to upskill in something I was passionate about in my job. I’m leaving 2022 with waiting on the delivery of my piece of paper stating I’m qualified as a Forest School Leader. We knocked it out of the park!

An obstacle/challenge that you overcame this year?

E: I’ve only partially overcome the challenge that is my back which decided 4 days before our flight to Amsterdam to go into spasm so I could barely walk. I had and still have to figure out how to work with it so I don’t set it off again.

N: Understanding my do’s and don’ts with food. I know more going into 2023 then I did going into 2022 on what is a trigger to cause a flare up and what’s not. Just need to stick with it.

This year I learned the following about myself?

E: That there are places I am wanted and places where I want to be and that sometimes they can be one and the same and that I need to keep the people who make me feel this way around.

N: Creating once in a lifetime memories for others makes me feel so much more happy and emotional than my own top personal achievements for me of 2022.

What made me laugh the hardest this year?

E: Honestly, I laughed a lot but I can’t remember a lot of reasons why.

N: 😉 not going to lie… I almost passed out from not being able to breathe properly after it happened.

My best memory of the year was?

E: Yuki Tsunoda spotting my brother and I waving the Japanese flag during the drivers’ parade in Zandvoort and waving back at us.

N: I have two joint first place memories and no one can give out to me for having a joint best memory. Firstly, my sister’s reaction to finally realising she was standing at the barrier at the front of the pit area for My Chemical Romance. The second was Emma’s reaction to Max Verstappen winning the Dutch GP while we were a part of the audience.

My biggest regret of the year was?

E: Realising I wasted a lot of time and energy on a person or people when I could have given it to someone else.

N: Not slowing down to take a breather when my body was telling me to. I ended up ending 2022 being rather ill.

If I could change one thing about this year it would be?

E: My tolerance for dealing with people in a retail/customer service role.

N: Nothing, everything happens for a reason.

This year I travelled to (outside of Ireland)?

E: London and The Netherlands (Amsterdam and Zandvoort to be precise)!!!

N: London, The Netherlands and Belfast (it’s technically still in Ireland but it was my first time there!)

This year I broke out of my comfort zone by:

E: Letting myself have more fun and not caring what people who actually don’t care might possibly think.

N: Saying yes to new opportunities at work. Even though I felt there were people more qualified than me to get the job done.

What I am most grateful for this year is:

E: My friends. They’ve looked out for me so much, been honest and straightforward and never expected me to be anything other than myself.

N: Little thoughtful moments, I am truly grateful for all my amazing friends and family this year.

If I could travel back to the beginning of the year here’s some advice I would give myself

E: It’s okay to have fun even if people don’t expect you to. If you’re having fun and not hurting anyone, that’s all that matters.

N: Slow down and leave yourself time to relax. Being constantly on the go on your days off isn’t healthy.

Favourite Things

Favourite thing about this year?

E: I felt more content in myself and in my life and I smiled more.

N: The surreal moments where you take a few seconds to realise this moment is truly special happening more and more… Enjoying living in the moment.

Event of the Year

E: It has to be the Dutch Grand Prix and the time we spent in the Netherlands.

N: The Dutch Grand Prix by gosh was it insane and so surreal! We’ll be back at another one soon!

Moment of the Year

E: Being front row to see Sigrid live for the first time.

N: The moment my sister realised we were at the barrier of the pit area for My Chemical Romance.

A Quote to sum up your year

E: “A lifetime isn’t forever, so take the first chance, don’t wait for the second one! Because sometimes, there aren’t second chances.”

N: ‘It’s fun to have fun but, you have to know how’ Dr. Seuss

And with that, the 2022 season comes to an end
