March is easy… I think. I wouldn’t actually know. I spent most of it working or playing Genshin. Very productive, aren’t I? The good thing is that summer time has started in Ireland; the days are getting longer and the weather is getting better kind of (not really). For the first time in a while, I’m just too tired to be excited about writing and maybe that shows but I’ve made a deal with myself: I’m not going to lie about it and pretend everything is fine and A-okay. You can never be 100% fine all the time and it’s okay to be bluntly honest about it. I spend enough time at work pretending to be happy so why keep pretending when I don’t have to. It takes time and energy I honestly don’t have. The burnout is real people.
I guess my lesson for this month is that sometimes saying no is a necessity but also that saying no doesn’t make you a bad person. Everyone, no matter how reliable or dependable they may be, needs time to just stop and be still. Being still doesn’t mean you’re being lazy. Sometimes working hard makes those breaks we do take even more fun. Plus, if you don’t stop, your body will stop for you. Take care of yourself and all the other pieces will fall into place. You might be a parent, a teacher, a team leader or just the mom friend but you’ve got to ask yourself: Who’s going to look after you if you don’t? And, if you have someone to look after you, do you trust them not to burn down the house or break anything while they’re at it? Hmm, I didn’t think so.
But, anywho, enough deep and philosophical musings for one post. Let’s get to the music! Please find attached one playlist for the month of March and one playlist of the year so far. Kindest Regards,
Emma.
(Surviving Not Thriving)
March 1: Slow Hands – Niall Horan (I’m doing a thing! It’ll make sense eventually)
March 2: MAESTRO – SEVENTEEN (Maestro, if you please? HORANGHAE!)
March 3: Man I Need – Olivia Dean (A wonderful, poppy soul jam that’s ideal for Car-aoke)
March 4: her (feat. Annika Wells & Kaden Hawke) – jvke (The music sounds like the start of spring to me
March 5: Breathless – The Corrs (It mightn’t make sense yet but it will)
March 6: watch – Billie Eilish (Watch my heart burn . . . . But Billie, they have Gaviscon for that)
March 7: Stuck With You – Huey Lewis & The News (This song appears a lot in my mind and I always think it’s kinda cute when you think about it)
March 8: We Should Be Lovers – Royseven (this is another one . . . . just wait)
March 9: Everything Is Romantic – Orchestra Club (Fall in love again)
March 10: Confident (feat. Chance the Rapper) – Justin Bieber ( If you look confident, you’ll feel confident, right?)
March 11: you don’t exist yet – Savanna Leigh
March 12: Chocolate – Snow Patrol (How ’bout now? Can you tell what it is yet?)
March 13: Endless Sun – Stray Kids (It feels like Summer 2016 all over again)
March 14: Shiny Happy People – R.E.M (It’s a good day when itis a chill day)
March 15: Adventure of a Lifetime – Coldplay (Everything you want’s a dream away)
March 16: come to brazil – bbno$ (because it’s so much fun!)
March 17: High Hopes – Kodaline (I think you might have guessed that I’m ‘subtly’ adding Irish artists to this month’s playlist… you know, because of St Patrick’s Day. That one day when everyone seems to want to be Irish.)
March 18: Shake Ya Boom Boom – Stalic, Ben El & Black Eyed Peas (It’s the chorus’ fault that this song is here)
March 19: Rolling in the Deep – Adele (Because this song makes me think I can sing. I really can’t)
March 20: NORMAL – BTS (It would be remiss of me to ignore the most anticipated K-Pop comeback of the year)
March 21: Dinner Party – Niall Horan (he appears twice in one month? Yes, he’s Irish he gets special privileges)
March 22: Bounce (feat. Dr Dre) – Timbaland, Missy Elliott & Justin Timberlake (The Step Up soundtracks still have bangers on them all these years later)
March 23: Honest – Dermot Kennedy (He’s a storyteller with a guitar and he does it so well. I guess we Irish tell a great story)
March 24: London Bridge – Fergie (London Bridge fell down . . . . just sayin’)
March 25: 별, 빛 (STAY) – Stray Kids (Happy 8th anniversary to SKZ and thank you for the song and the stars. And they appear twice in one month too? Yes, I just don’t have an excuse for it this time)
March 26: Strategy – TWICE (Because in every culture, I have a strategy apparently)
March 27: You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home – Hannah Montana (20 years and she still has so many bangers and this song still has a point. You will always find your way back home)
March 28: Flame – Bell X1 (Because no two Irish artists sound the exact same)
March 29: She – Selena Gomez
March 30: Homewrecker – sombr
March 31: Paint the Town Green – The Script (Because sometimes we need a reminder that, as bad as everything is, we areblessedto be from the beautiful island of Ireland)
March is a month where people the world over celebrates Ireland and the roots that the Irish people have spread around the globe. So, I thought it was only fair that we do the same with our playlist. But just a friendly reminder we don’t want to hear about how you’re 0.3% Irish on your mother’s grandaunt-in-law’s cousin’s side. Oh and it’s St. Paddy’s Day. Not Patty. Referring to it as St. Patty’s Day is really a slur but that is a story for another day and the luck o’ the Irish also has derogatory connotations at its origins so watch your mouth and behave yourselves. Okay? Okay. OkayIloveyougoodbye :*
