Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful day, no matter where you are in the world. Today, I want to share my list of favourite Irish pubs that I’ve visited across different parts of Europe. My best friend and I travel frequently together as we work on ticking items off our travel bucket list. During our adventures, we’ve started a tradition of visiting an Irish pub in each new city we explore. Below, I will list some of my favorites for anyone interested or seeking recommendations for their next trip.
Irish Pub in the Fleetenkieker – Hamburg, Germany
My absolute favourite spot has to be this charming Irish pub in Hamburg! I stumbled upon it a few years back when I went to see Avril Lavigne, and I had such a great time. The bar staff were super friendly and welcoming. We ended up having a fantastic chat with them, and when they learned we were heading to the Avril concert that night, they started playing her music just for us! They even treated us to a free shot of Baby Guinness, which was such a sweet gesture. Oh, and I have to mention their Club Sandwich and chips—absolutely delicious! If that’s any indication, the food there is definitely top-notch.
And while you’re in Hamburg, make sure to check out Luigi’s for some amazing food! They serve some of the best pasta I’ve ever had. It’s an authentic Italian restaurant with prices that won’t break the bank. You won’t regret it!
Danny Boy – Salou, Spain
This is honestly the most authentic Irish pub I’ve ever been to while travelling! The place is buzzing with friendly Irish staff who make you feel right at home. You’ll often find live music from talented Irish musicians, which really adds to the fun atmosphere. The cozy decor, full of traditional Irish touches, creates a perfect spot to kick back and relax. If you’re in Salou and want to unwind with a great drink and some good vibes, be sure to check this place out!
The Corkonian – Cologne, Germany
This lovely pub is run by a friendly Irish man and is perfectly situated in the centre of Cologne. I have to say, I might be a little biased, but when my friend and I walked in, I instantly fell in love with the vibe—especially because they were playing some great Irish rebel music! That always gets me in a good mood!
Scholars Lounge – Rome, Italy
We visited Rome during an intense heatwave and found this pub to be perfect for a cold drink. They offer a wide range of Irish beverages, including gin, whiskey, and, of course, beer. The menu even featured their take on a chicken fillet roll. The pub’s interior resembles those back home and creates a welcoming atmosphere.
Waxy O’Connor’s – London, England
Interestingly, despite being close to London, it can be difficult to find a good Irish pub in the city. My aunt, who previously lived in London, recommended Waxy’s to me. The interior is quite unique, and there’s plenty of space to relax. Of all the Irish pubs I have visited in London, this one is definitely my favourite.
I really hope at least one person finds this list helpful! My friend and I absolutely love our tradition of visiting Irish pubs whenever we travel, and I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. Who knows, maybe in a few years, I’ll come back and share some new favourites! For now, though, that’s all I have to share.
GRMA,
Aoife
