With so many people jumping on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians ship, since the release of the Disney+ series, I’ve decided to welcome all you fans (new and old) and provide you with a playlist that’s perfectly Percy (or at least that’s what I think). I can’t say this playlist is spoiler free though and it does hint at the ending of season 1 and maybe a little further on into Percy’s storyline. So if you want a playlist with Seaweed Brain vibes, you’ve found it right here. So, for those of you who haven’t read the books, you have warned. To those of you who have read them, I hope you enjoy.
From OMG’s Cabin 13 kid (according to Rick’s quiz). Peace out!
“Empire State of Mind (feat. Alicia Keys)” – Jay-Z – Our proud New Yorker wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Rude” – MAGIC! – Some would say it’s impertinence or sass or even sarcasm but others just call it rude.
“Help! I’m a Fish” – Little Trees – arriving at camp he was a fish out of water (get it?) and, above all, he was a kid.
“Monster” – Imagine Dragons – Bounced from school to school with dyslexia and ADHD must have been hard and never once did Percy fit in until he arrived at Camp Half-Blood.
“Riptide” – Vance Joy – Anaklusmos was the first real hint of who Percy really was.
“Waves” – Dean Lewis – Percy Jackson, Son of Poseidon, Pelagios, God of the sea and king of the sea gods.
“Earthquake (feat. Tinie Tempah)” – Labrinth – ““Poseidon,” said Chiron, “Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God.”“
“Mercy” – Shawn Mendes – Even as a kid, loyalty and a willingness to sacrifice himself for those who matter to him was Percy’s fatal flaw from the very beginning.
“Umbrella (feat. Jay-Z)” – Percy’s song to his beloved and very, very wise girlfriend considering he doesn’t need an umbrella after all.
“ocean eyes” – Billie Eilish – a song from the head counsellor of the Athena cabin.
“Forever and Ever and Always” – Ryan Mack – A perfect song for Percabeth.
“Don’t Blame Me” – Taylor Swift – Percy Jackson can not be held responsible for what he does to protect or find his way back to Annabeth.
“Brother” – Kodaline – Loyalty is his fatal flaw and, personally, I attach this song to Percy and Grover’s friendship.
“Hero (feat. Josey Scott)” – Chad Kroeger- For a while, Percy was very much left to fend for himself with minimal help, acting as the hero.
“My Hero” – Foo Fighters – Percy seems the most ordinary of all the demigods but he’s still very much a hero.
“My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)” – Fall Out Boy – a callback to the other Percy and where our playlist turns.
“Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” – Skrillex – It’s hard to tell who are enemies and who are friends when you’re new to the mythical world.
“I Saved the World Today” – Eurythmics – The amount of times Percy could have used this song as his anthem… it just keeps happening. Plus, as I listen to this song, it always sounds so tired.
“Bad Blood (Taylor’s Version) (feat. Kendrick Lamar)” – Taylor Swift – “Oh wait you got amnesia… battle scars, body bumped, bruised, stabbed in the back…And you gotta live with the bad blood now.” PJO book readers, Does this sound familiar to you?
“Bottom of the Deep Blue Sea” – MISSIO – We thank Sally Jackson that this is not the Percy we know.
“GODS” – League of Legends & NewJeans – Being powerful enough to be offered godhood tells you how impressive Percy really is. He doesn’t have to play god when he could have been one and decided not to be.
“weapon” – Against The Current – Percy’s strength of will is what prevented him from being a mindless weapon but that doesn’t make him any less terrifying as an enemy. It just means you get sasses as you get your butt handed to you.
“Monster” – Skillet – the unhinged Percy ‘let’s see how much misery Misery can take’ Jackson, the one that Annabeth feared for and for a moment feared herself. A big step away from the first song of the same title.
“Hoist the Colours” – The Wellermen – a sea shanty to help you sleep a little less easy. This song is a pledge to the sea sung by pirates punished to hang for their crimes. A song from Percy’s domain where he can, possibly, swim at Mach 3 speeds. Much like the sea he just happens to take it easy on some people sometimes.
