Today, January 18th, is National Winnie the Pooh Day! It’s a day to mark everything we love about that “silly old bear” and to mark the date of birth of the author of these spellbinding stories, A.A. Milne. A.A. Milne was born on January 18th 1882 but it wasn’t until 1926, after being inspired by his son Christopher Robin and his stuffed toys that, the first book Winnie-the-Pooh was released. So grab your Winnie the Pooh memorabilia, throw on an outfit inspired by one of the characters and get ready to get lost in a Winnie the Pooh Movie to mark the occasion! People around the world celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day in many different ways but, here at Our Muchness Guide, we are going to list Niamh’s top 5 favourite movies, quotes and favourite character from this loveable series!
5 Favourite Winnie the Pooh
Christopher Robin
First up, we have the most recent addition to the Winnie the Pooh movies and the movie that makes me cry the most: ‘Christopher Robin’ (2018). In my opinion, it is incredibly underrated as a whole and is the best live action Disney movie in recent years! The characters are loveable and the concept is dealt with well. All of our favourite Hundred Acre Wood friends are done justice in this heartfelt film! This film does come with a side of warning, although the last section of the movie gives you those feel good family moments, overall, I think this movie is better suited to old children and members of the family. There are darker tones and feelings used that younger viewers may be affected by.
The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
In second place, we have a classic from 1977 is the very first Winnie the Pooh movie entitled ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh’. The animation is classic Disney’s Bronze era, and even though it was made during what is known as Disney’s weakest era, it outshines many of the movies made during this period. It includes one of my favourite moments in the Winnie the Pooh movies; the opening. You are transported through Christopher Robin’s room before our story begins! The soundtrack is amazing with many memorable numbers, the stories fun while the characterisation and voices are unforgettable! Trust me when I say, most people’s favourite Winnie the Pooh tales are in this movie and the memorable exercise routine all major Disney fans tried to copy!
Goodbye Christopher Robin
‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’ (2017) is the only non-Disney made movie on the list! It follows the story behind the Winnie the Pooh story from A.A. Milne’s recovering after the First World War, with the help of his son Christopher Robin and his toys, and the famous book Winnie the Pooh was written. This movie, I think, is incredibly important in the world today as it shows how fame and the limelight began to destroy everything that was good. It is based on real events and in my opinion is a spectacular biopic movie.
Winnie the Pooh
In fourth place is the movie that is often overlooked! Winnie the Pooh (2011). It is rather short in comparison to the other movies but it has some funny moments that make up for it! The movie also has my all time favourite Piglet moment which shows Piglet not being able to tie a knot! Another thing I liked about this movie is how important words are. “Back Soon” quickly turns into an evil imaginary creature called “the Backson”.
The Tigger Movie
Last, but certainly not least, is the movie I associate with my siblings the most when it comes to Winnie the Pooh: ‘The Tigger Movie’ (2000). Tigger was my sister’s favourite character and I can’t tell you how many times this movie was played in our house! Often looked on as a weak story, I honestly think it holds one of the best lessons children can learn: friends are family we choose for ourselves! I still smile at the fact Tigger’s friends decided to try to make Tigger feel better by dressing up like other Tiggers so he didn’t feel alone!
5 Favourite Winnie the Pooh Quotes
The following is a mixture of what I like to live my life by and the most important quotes when it comes to my family! For example, my top quote was incorporated into my Undergraduate Degree graduation present from my family!
“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think”
“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart”
“The most important thing is, even when we’re apart… I’ll always be with you”
“Any day spent with you is my favourite”
“A hug is always the right size”
Lastly, this wouldn’t be a celebration of Winnie the Pooh day without highlighting my favourite character! Hopefully, it doesn’t come as a surprise to some of you that my favourite character is Piglet! From Piglet’s worrying and anxious moments to memorable quotes and scenes, Piglet will always be my number one favourite character within the Hundred Acre Wood! So, without further ado have a look at my favourite ‘Piglet to the rescue’ moment!
