Heeeeeello guys, it’s me, Emma, doing the intro. Hello (Extra brownie points if you know who’s YouTube intro I borrowed). It’s time for my favourite time of year! Autumn is arriving fast and, with all the insanity that this year has brought, the seasons are still the same. We went quiet on the blog in August because work had us so crazy busy that we just couldn’t possibly fit more into our schedules and we missed out on writing about stuff we were genuinely interested in because of that but, with September arriving, be prepared for sensational news: we’re back blogging regularly again! There is new music on the horizon in September but right now we’re going to look back at the best bits of August and take stock of what we’ve really enjoyed this last month.
Book of the Month
N: I’ve been catching up on Cassandra Clare’s books waiting for the new book out September 1st!
E: Inkheart by Cornelia Funke is such a fantastic story and has such a unique idea for a plot. I fell in love with this book years ago and I still love it.
TV Picks
N: It is sheer trash but work was tough in August! I have been binge watching Marriage At First Sight Australia and I am living for it!
E: The only things I’ve watched this month on TV are the multiple Formula 1 Grand Prix on Sky Sports F1. I’ve been watching F1 for as long as I can remember supporting Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barichello, Fernando Alonso, and now Sebastian Vettel, Max Verstappen, Daniel Riccardo and Lando Norris. So, even though the world is in chaos at the moment, that doesn’t mean I won’t watch my favourite drivers in some of the fastest cars on the planet.
Movie Picks
Good Movie Recommendations:
E & N: Black Panther – In memory of a true king on and off screen, we chose this movie. Chadwick will be remembered as a true hero by so many, an inspiration to many different people and as a committed and undeniably fantastic actor. Rest in Power and Peace, Chadwick Boseman. Your legacy will not be forgotten and our thoughts and prayers are with the people who love him and know him best. – “In my culture, death is not the end. It’s more of a stepping off point. You reach out with both hands and Bast and Sekhmet, they lead you into a green veld where you can run forever.”
Cheesy Movie Recommendations:
N: John Tucker Must Die. We had a reunion towards the end of August and this movie was watched! Does it sum up our fantasies on getting revenge on people? Hardly! But, we love this one a lot!
E: I’m offering up ‘Status Update’ with Ross Lynch and Olivia Holt as my choice to the cheesy gods of cinema but I do have to agree with Niamh as well. (Niamh also watched this and was slightly disappointed but I mainly watched it for Ross Lynch). Bye bye little Tucker, hasta la vista motherf-
Gaming Picks
N: I’m been playing a mobile app called June’s Journey. Highly recommended from Goodnight Moon ASMR. 1920’s detectives, eat your heart out!
E: Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a gorgeous game with animated cutscenes by Studio Ghibli so of course I was going to pick it up and play it. Yeah, it starts off very simplistic but there’s a lot more strategy involved the further into the game you progress.
Music:
Single:
N: ‘Break The Silence’ True Tides. These lads have mastered the definition of absolute bops in 2020!
E: The Baddest – K/DA – are my favourite animated K-pop group back and better than ever? Yes! Am I jamming to the new track everyday? Uh obviously! #CallingAllBlades
Album/EP:
N: Emma Blackery dropped a two year Anniversary Album of ‘Villains’ but this time the songs are all reimagined acoustic versions and I am loving it!IWhen the album came out two years ago I was in a very very different place that Emma’s music helped a lot. This time round it is like Emma has grown along with me and this version is hitting just as hard!
Favourite thing about August:
N: Reunion with Em after Offaly was FINALLY allowed to be free! I also got great coffee! Cheers Katie! XD (and great Chinese food! XD – E )
E: Finishing work. I found the last two weeks harder than usual and there was always that constant threat looming over my shoulder but thankfully now that concern has lessened a bit and I don’t have to constantly worry about losing important stuff anymore
Favourite Item of the Month:
N: ‘Table Top’ if you know you know!
E: My new Jeffree Star Cosmetics chocolate brown teddy hoody. It is just the softest, warmest thing ever and I love it. It’s like getting super soft cuddles from a cloud.
Event of the Month:
N: The gig on VirginMediaOne for Marie Keating Foundation was pretty stellar!
Moment of the Month:
N: The moments I wasn’t threatened at work!
E: Our fabulous reunion in the T-more! It was so long overdue. Niamh and I have always seen each other at least once every 2-3 weeks so to have to wait so long to see my bestie is hard but the reunions make up for it!
Your Quote of the Month:
N: “Forgiveness is a transformative act because it asks you to be a more empathetic and compassionate person, thereby making you better than the person you were when you were first hurt.” – Kamand Kojouri
E: “The best thing to hold onto in life is each other” – Audrey Hepburn
Three things you are most excited about for September:
N: New music! You guys wait until A LOT of new Irish music drops this month! I cannot wait…. Attending my first gig since March 1st! Cannot wait to see the girls and to see Craig Cooney do his thing! Lastly, back to schools and creativity in work from this month and I cannot wait!
E: I’M NOT WORKING!!! *Insert crowds cheering and applause here*…well I’m on standby so I could possibly be working in an emergency but, as of right now, I’m on down time. I’m excited to have more time to focus on what I enjoy doing. I can enjoy more music and more blogging. I’m excited to not have to try being nice to some people who sometimes aren’t always the nicest in return. But most of all I’m excited to take steps forward (if I can) towards things that will make me happy and I’m such an excited little glowbaby to get my mitts on another eyeshadow palette (I have so many!!!!).
