Isolation Station EP – PAULI – O.M.G. Sneak Peek

It’s been a little while since we featured a new up and coming Irish Artist here on Our Muchness Guide so, let’s change that! This evening’s blog post is dedicated to PAULI, Niamh here and tonight I am diving into the music solo! (Hoping I can live up to Emma’s awesomeness)

PAULI is a new emerging artist who covers three of the provinces of Ireland! He was born in Cork, grew up in Galway and is currently based in Dublin. His new EP ‘Isolation Station‘ drops at midnight!

So, let’s breakdown PAULI’s music. The first thing I would like to point out is listen to PAULI while he is singing. You will hear electro influences on the first track but, focus past that… hear it? It’s an Irish accent and not many acts in his genre of music use their Irish accent to his advantage. Previous songs by PAULI focused on Indie, folk and pop now; he ventured into electro all the while holding onto his roots.

PAULI’s influences can be described as catchy melodic pop in the forms of The Frames, Milky Chance and Artic Monkeys. It is interesting to see thewthe varition of genres that he composes his songs in as, with his lastest release ‘Cocoon’ off of his new EP, he dives into the electro genre of music! PAULI’s been playing music since he was eight and has been composing songs for a few years, starting in his teens.

Isolation Station artwork

Isolation Station‘ is a three track EP which PAULI wrote and produced himself in his bedroom. The topics revovle around Isolation, binge drinking, love and loss. Incredibly hard topics for some but, definitely topics that will hit home with everyone after recent events. I should also mention here that Isolation Station was mixed and mastered by Stephen Lovatt in Little Wolf Studios with artwork from Fiona Cooney Design. Let’s dive into the songs shall we?

Cocoon

The first song on Isolation Station is also the first single off the EP. ‘Cocoon’ can truly be described as a blanket that keeps you safe by keeping you inside. Anyone who is like me and enjoys 90’s pop with all it’s quirky songs will love this!

The song is going to have you hooked from the opening beat. The song is incredibly upbeat and with that 90’s pop feel with it’s underline electro beat pays homage to PAULI’s folk past; you are going to be bopping your head along to this one!

“Sitting by the window frame”

Does that picture sound familiar? Well, “Sitting by the window frame” is the line from the song that really made me think ‘hey, I know that feeling!’ Although the song has elements of being isolated and wanting to protect yourself from something, it does have a hopeful outlook.

The Fear

Get ready to be transported into a song version of a Ghost Train, literally… The song starts with a wolf howling! This song is going to hit home with anyone who has regrets about “the night before”

This song in my opinion is the least influenced by electro on the EP as it has stronger influential sounds that remind me of a late 90’s Pop Rock Anthem. The use of references to a werewolf and howling is a nice touch to this song and PAULI’s tone of voice with this song adds a new element to

“I’ll have another beer”

Does that line sound familiar or, hold a special place in your heart? If so make sure you give The Fear a listen to. Trust me, the song will bring you on a journey before even reaching the last sentence including those lyrics.

The Storm

The final song on the Isolation Station is ‘The Storm’ and this song is my favourite song on the entire EP. *drum roll please* Now we all know Niamh loves a good country/folk song and by gosh does this song deliver!

It has a David Gray feel to it and honestly, I am loving it! The song itself brings you on a journey of a lucid dream where PAULI met someone from his past. You are going to relate to this one if, you ever had a moment where you met an ex or, a person you used to be friends with by accident and you had to make small talk.

The lyrical journey of this song is mesmerizing but the instrumental moments during this song just made me fall in love with it!

So, there you go an other new Irish Artist for you to check out! PAULI’s EP Isolation Station drops at midnight. You can find his Spotify below and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Until next time, enjoy the music!
